Glad To Be Here Collection: Pieces With a Purpose
Rachel Milan is a Hamilton-born writer who is living with stage IV metastatic breast cancer that has no cure. She was originally diagnosed in 2013 while pregnant with her third child, at the age of 37. Rachel is being treated at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto and is participating in a clinical trial, since traditional chemotherapy has not worked. She has three children aged 17, 16 and six and has been married for 20 years to her husband, Rob. Rachel partnered with Giftologie to collaborate on a jewelry collection that will bring attention, advocacy and awareness to metastatic breast cancer in young women. Giftologie is a Niagara-based business whose jewelry can be found all over Canada and the U.S. Their pieces feature an inspiring quote on the inside of their popular cuff bracelet and necklace. Earrings are also in the collection. This new collection, entitled Glad To Be Here, celebrates the strength, resilience and beauty that is associated with the gladiolus flower and young women who have breast cancer. Meaning “little sword”, gladiolus flowers were used in Gladiator times to symbolize the bravery and integrity of its warriors and heroes. Together, Rachel and Giftologie created the Glad To Be Here collection with three original designs and four original quotes. The beauty and strength of the gladiolus is featured in two of the designs and there is one special bracelet that’s deliberately cheeky with the goal of changing the conversation around what stage IV truly means.
All proceeds from the sale of the Glad To Be Here collection will be donated to RETHINK Breast Cancer. RETHINK is a Canadian charity whose mission is to empower young people worldwide who are concerned about and affected by breast cancer through innovative education, support and advocacy.
